Description

Delightful homemade crispy onion rings that are golden brown, crunchy, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 1/4 cups club soda or beer
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rings; separate the rings.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  3. Gradually whisk in the club soda (or beer) until the batter is smooth.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dust the onion rings lightly with plain flour before dipping.
  6. Dip the rings into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
  7. Fry the rings in small batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy.
  8. Remove fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels or a wire rack.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh with various dipping sauces. To revive leftover rings, reheat in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 10-15 minutes.
