Description
Delightful Filipino fried banana rolls filled with ripe Saba bananas and optional jackfruit, coated in caramelized sugar for a crispy treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pieces Saba bananas
- 1 cup ripe jackfruit (optional)
- 10 pieces 8-inch square spring roll wrappers
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Peel the Saba bananas and slice them in half lengthwise. If using jackfruit, cut it into small pieces.
- Place a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface and add a piece of banana and some jackfruit on one edge.
- Sprinkle a teaspoon of brown sugar on top of the fruit, fold in the sides of the wrapper, and roll tightly. Seal the edge of the wrapper with a dab of water.
- Repeat until all ingredients are used.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully add the wrapped bananas and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
- Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- While warm, roll the fried turon in additional brown sugar for extra caramel flavor.
Notes
Use firm Saba bananas for the best texture. Fry in batches to prevent sticking.
