Description

Delightful Filipino fried banana rolls filled with ripe Saba bananas and optional jackfruit, coated in caramelized sugar for a crispy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pieces Saba bananas
  • 1 cup ripe jackfruit (optional)
  • 10 pieces 8-inch square spring roll wrappers
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Peel the Saba bananas and slice them in half lengthwise. If using jackfruit, cut it into small pieces.
  2. Place a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface and add a piece of banana and some jackfruit on one edge.
  3. Sprinkle a teaspoon of brown sugar on top of the fruit, fold in the sides of the wrapper, and roll tightly. Seal the edge of the wrapper with a dab of water.
  4. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully add the wrapped bananas and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
  6. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. While warm, roll the fried turon in additional brown sugar for extra caramel flavor.

Notes

Use firm Saba bananas for the best texture. Fry in batches to prevent sticking.
