Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk (room temperature)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and finely chopped)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for apple coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for apple coating)
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar (for the swirl)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for the swirl)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with oil or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a small bowl, mix the chopped apples with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set this aside.
- In another small bowl, whisk together the 1/3 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon for the swirl layer.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate medium bowl, beat the egg with 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until smooth. Stir in the milk and vegetable oil.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the bread tough.
- Fold the prepared apple pieces into the batter.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the batter.
- Pour the remaining batter on top. Sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the very top.
- Use a butter knife to gently swirl the layers together in a zigzag motion.
- Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before moving it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Cook Time: 70 minutes
