Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups high-quality turkey stock (or chicken stock)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place a medium saucepan over medium heat and add the butter. Let it melt until it starts to bubble slightly.
- Sprinkle the all-purpose flour into the melted butter. Whisk constantly for about 1 to 2 minutes. The mixture should look golden and smell slightly nutty.
- Slowly pour in about half a cup of the stock while whisking vigorously. This helps prevent lumps from forming.
- Continue adding the remaining stock in a slow, steady stream, whisking the entire time until the mixture is smooth.
- Bring the gravy to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes. You will see it thicken as it heats up.
- Stir in the onion powder and garlic powder.
- Taste the gravy and add salt and black pepper according to your preference.
- Remove from heat and serve immediately in a warm gravy boat.
