For the Maple Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar, mixing until well combined.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, whisking until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the diced apples and walnuts (if using).
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. While the brownies are baking, prepare the maple glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk in a small bowl until smooth.
  3. Once the brownies are done, let them cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Drizzle the maple glaze over the cooled brownies before cutting into squares.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Allow to come to room temperature before serving. For added flavor, sprinkle sea salt on top of the glaze.
