Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar, mixing until well combined.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, whisking until smooth.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples and walnuts (if using).
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the brownies are baking, prepare the maple glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk in a small bowl until smooth.
- Once the brownies are done, let them cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Drizzle the maple glaze over the cooled brownies before cutting into squares.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Allow to come to room temperature before serving. For added flavor, sprinkle sea salt on top of the glaze.
